EVG-3D – HEALTH & SAFETY IN CONSTRUCTION, A COMPARATIVE ASSESSMENT
Ing Claude Farrugia recently delivered a presentation during a seminar organised by JMV Vibro Blocks Limited in Zebbug to launch the EVG-3D Construction System in Malta. This was held at the Hilton on the 20th June 2013.
The presentation, titled “EVG-3D – Health & Safety in Construction, a Comparative Assessment” gave an overview on the legal responsibilities of the Client appointed Project Supervisor for the Design Stage as per Legal Notice 281 of 2004, Work Place (Minimum Health and Safety Requirements for Work at Construction Sites) Regulations, 2004, followed by a comparative assessment between conventional building methodologies and the EVG-3D construction system. The assessment identified a number of benefits in relation to occupational health and safety. These include reduction in manual handling, dusts, noise, use of electrical tools, reduction in heavy lifts and heavy machinery on site and improved housekeeping.
The EVG-3D Construction System is a cost-effective construction system offering a well proven building method using high strength, load bearing modular panels. The EVG-3D Construction System consists of panels with a layer of galvanized mesh on either side of an EPS core, welded together by galvanised steel diagonals (trusses) which penetrate through the EPS core. The panels are joined in the desired configuration on site and sprayed with concrete to form a sandwich type construction.
Strength and rigidity of the panels result from the diagonal truss wires welded to the cover mesh layers on each side of the panel combined with the concrete layers, thus ensuring the effective transfer of the shear forces for a full composite behaviour. Lateral forces are absorbed most effectively by the EVG-3D shear walls. The EVG-3D Building System provides a robust system that has a high resistance to hard and soft body impacts likely to be associated with normal residential and commercial use situations.
